Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship: Fueling Dreams, Building Futures

At the McMillan Family Foundation, we recognize entrepreneurship as a powerful engine for economic growth, community revitalization, and personal empowerment. Starting and growing a business creates jobs, generates wealth, and fosters innovation—helping individuals and communities achieve long-term stability and prosperity.

Why Entrepreneurship Matters

Small businesses are the backbone of the American economy, accounting for nearly 44% of U.S. economic activity and employing over 47% of the workforce.¹ However, many aspiring entrepreneurs face significant barriers including lack of access to capital, mentorship, and business education.

  • 70% of small businesses fail within the first 10 years, often due to inadequate funding or planning.²
  • Minority-owned businesses are less likely to receive traditional bank loans, limiting growth opportunities.³
  • Entrepreneurship can be a key pathway to generational wealth and community revitalization when supported effectively.
